The Cyber Crime Cell of the Goa Police has registered an offense against two brothers from Cuncolim for persuading a US national to invest in a joint business venture and subsequently cheating her of Rs 48.77 lakh.
Pa Muas Xiong, who currently resides in Porvorim, filed a complaint against Rohan and Sairaj Phal Dessai alleging that the brothers befriended her and convinced her to invest in a business dealing with computer-related activities.
On the pretext of procuring a virtual office, and accessories, besides expenditure towards recruiting employees and covering their salaries, the complainant was told to transfer Rs 48.77 lakh in the form of cryptocurrency between November 23, 2021, and September 6, 2023.
Realizing that she had been deceived, she approached Cyber Crime with a complaint. The accused are yet to be arrested.
